I haven't ruled out anything yet. Kimber has a good rep and the Montana is a light rifle. If they make it in something like the 7-08 or a similar cartridge, it could be the one. I don't want a 6 1/2 pound rifle in a caliber like 30-06. Had one years ago that was very accurate. Good hunting rifle but for me, not especially fun to shoot due to recoil.

If you are so determined to spend that money, I would look at the following:

http://www.christensenarms.com/rifles.asp

One of my friends, who can afford to buy any gun he wants, got one of these about a year ago.  He has since taken in on a Dall hunt in the Yukon and a Marco Polo Ram hunt in one of the 'stans.  Took top 10 rams both hunts.  Very high altitude and says that the gun was a dream to carry and shoots great.  He has the 300 Ultra Mag caliber.

They do, I've got the Montana chambered in 7mm-08 and it's a dream.  The most versatile hunting rifle I've ever owned.  It shoots fantastic and the gun is extremely light.  The worksmanship is perfect.  Ok, I'll stop sounding like I want another one - Cuz I do.  ;D

Once a cheapskate, always a cheapskate! After drooling over Steyr, Sako, Kimber etc. and assorted  custom rifles, I've decided on a Tikka T3 in 6.5X55. Right weight, right caliber and the right features for my purposes. I will handload and brass and bullets are readily available.
