Remington 600

I think I am going to buy a Remington 600, 308 made in the mid 60's. It is in great shape. what would be a good price to offer/what should I expect to pay?

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess $500.00-PLUS!

These are getting very scarce, that is to say the people who have them don't want to sell them!

The 600's are nice, light, quick handling and reliable!

I had one for a lot of years, in 6mm Rem., but I gave it to my son quite a few years ago!  When I did that, I also threatened him if he ever sold it!

Like Chuck, my son has taken over my 600. It is in 308 and with a 2 3/4x scope, one of my all time favortie rifles. I wouldn't get one based on a cartridge longer than the 308 case tho. The magazine well won't let you seat out long bullets where we think they ought to be.

I also had one in 243 but didn't care for it. It being the cartridge. Seems to me that the 243 needs at least a 22" barrel. A 600 in either 260 Rem or 7mm-08 would be dandy, I think they call that a mod 7 now.

LOL, I would never sell it. It is cool when I take it to the range and people from 5 lanes down call cold just to come over and talk to me about it. I am still trying to work up a load though. I shot some Hornady factory loaded 95 gr the other day and got a .6 inch group at 100 yards. ;)

If you look on gunbroker you can get a good idea on what to pay. Do a smart search and look for completed auctions in the .308.

I just bought one for my wife in 243.  Shoots sub moa with several different combinations.  Paid $350 for mine.

My old elk huntin' pard wanted me to buy one in 6.5 Rem Mag, just like his. But I'm a southpaw and allergic to the word Magnum. So I just kept my 6.5-.257.  ;D
As others have said the price just keeps goin' up. The last on I saw for sale in .308 was in Lancaster, CA about 15 years ago.

The rifles with the most value in the model 600 and 660 are the 6.5mm Mag and the .350 Mag, which can come in at over $1000.  Other calibers often demand lower prices.  I have seen 600's and 660's for sale for $350-$400, without a scope.  A decent scope would push the price over $500, but under $600.

A new Remington Model 7 wouldn't cost this much and the Model 7 is everything the 600 and 660 ever was, and more.  IMO.

Not sure about pricing but my daughter was given one in 243 by my dad 2 yrs ago and I have taken two deer with it.
First year an 8pt buck on the Ashley Ranch(same name as daughter lol) in west texas that didn't take another step and last year a 7pt(tried to make 8) in the east texas pinet woods that went about 25yds.One shot each.Both using Remington 90grn Core Loct ammo but neither over 50yds.Last year my buddy shot an axis doe with it and hit her in the shoulder @ about 75yds.He saw blood on her shoulder but after looking all day we never found the deer or any blood on the ground?hmmmm
Gun shows are a good place to find pricing but like used cars you take a little off their pricing.

Actually the most expensive 600's are the ones that were originally chambered in .223 since there were only 350 made. Auctions for these rifles tend to come at over $3000 last I checked. You do have to watch out though, some people get the .222 rechambered and try to pass it off as an original .223.

My point was that the .308 and .243 often demand less money to buy, and except for the rare calibers, they don't get much.  The 6.5 Mag and the .350 Mag are often sought after, and get a higher premium.  Whether or not a .223 gets more, I have no idea.  Last month I saw a 600 for sale privately, it was in very good shape had a nice scope on it.  The guy wanted $550 for it.   I asked what he would take without the scope, he declined that transaction stating that the scope was at least worth $200.  A quick look at the gun auctions on the net shows the common calibers going for about $350 and up.  So it seems like this guy did the same thing before offering it for sale.

He never did sell that thing, and so far over 100 people looked at it.  The price is too high.

You can expect to pay from $350-$600, depending on setup and cal. I have a Mohawk 600 .243 i bought in early 70's for about $100 new. Has the semi bull bbl. on it and shoots rather nice small groups. I use 70/75gr.bullets fer varmints and pests and 100gr. fer deer and such, has a 4x12 scope .

Look at the Ruger Frontier/Compact series. You'll be therer at 2/3 rds the price. The Ruger's might need some type of a trigger job thoutgh.
