Does anyone have experience with the 357PD (.41 Mag)?
« on: May 11, 2006, 12:17:04 PM »
Well, my hard earned money is just screaming to get out of my wallet and be turned into a new gun.

I've been thinking hard on that 357PD for a while now.  I've not yet seen one, but I've seen the .44 mag version (but not shot it).

They look great but I'm a bit concerned cuz I really haven't heard much about them.

I remember reading (when S&W first started using the Hi-Viz sights) that the front sight was too high to get good regulation with the rear sight at 20 yards.  Does anyone know if this was ever fixed?

Also, I've never fired the scandium frames...are they as strong as the steel frames?  Do I have to moderate my loads more than normal with them?

Any other opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Thanks from the Frozen Northwoods!!!

That still amazes me…I don’t care who you are or how much I care about you, I would never let you kill my son.  I can’t even begin to understand how much He loves us.

.41RemMag is sort of Wednesdays' Child of the magnum handgun world. I love it myself. Don't have your Smith but is do have the Taurus 425SH4C which uses the same tooling as the Smith only Taurus had it out about 4 years before the Smith. BTY my Taurus is my primary carry gun. That is how much confidence I have in it.
Love those .41s'

...bought it last fall and it has been a great shooter so far. Most of what I have put through the gun have been 950 fps reloads of 8.0 grains of Unique with a 210 grain Berry's Mfg. plated bullet. Have only fired 2-3 cylinder full of 1350 fps factory equvilant reloads and can only say they are a LOT easier to shoot than a M329PD .44 Magnum with full 240 factory loads.

I didn't think I was going to like the sights but after shooting them I am now even thinking of putting a set on one of the Mountain Guns I have....

If you don't reload or have access to 900-1000 fps commercial ammo/reloads I would not buy this gun...you won't shoot it a lot.

I have a 329, and I couldn't agree more.  I really love those sights.  After the light weight, the sights are the second thing everyone comments on (in a positive way).   I bought mine strictly for grizzly protection, my Vaquero is like carrying an anvil, and didn't think I'd shoot the 329 much.  However, I loaded some 180 grain Sierras with a light load of Titegroup for plinking, etc, and with that load it's very enjoyable to shoot.

Me too, the Hogues sure are comfortable.   I went flyfishing at a small lake two days ago and didn't want to carry my 329 under my chesthigh waders although next to fish, the lake's second main event is rattlesnakes on the pathways.   Sure enough, right off the trail on the way back, 200 yards from the truck one rattles at me, I hot-foot it to the truck, grab my S&W, pop in my ear plugs, (just been to the gun club), and went back and blew him to smithereens.   Didn't catch a fish, but blasting the snake was just as fun.

I took advantage of a S&W weekend at a local dealer had the opportunity to fire the 357PD. I enjoyed it and I think if I could have fired a 329PD I might have bought one. I'm more interested in 44's merely because I have too many of them to get involved in the 41 caliber at this time. It was fun!!!!!!
