Scout setup?
« on: June 15, 2006, 02:46:13 PM »
Does anyone know if it would be possible to drill and tap the barrel to put the H&R scope mount over the forearm?  By putting a level on the barrel, it doesn't look like the barrel tapers much.  I would think it's close enough to the line of the bore.  I'd like to be able to mount a Leupold 2.5 EER scope in quick release rings and a WGRS peep.  Thanks, Ian

The radius on the H&R scope base is too big for the barrel. You might want to check out a Encore base, the radius will be much closer to what you are looking for. Weaver makes an inexpensive one that has 4 or 5 cross slots in it. Other options for a closer fit to the radius of the barrel would be bases for the CVA Optima ot Traditions Pursuit since they all don't have the expanded chamber area like the Huntsman/Sidekick. You might be able to use the holes for the rear sight along with another one or two drilled and tapped by a gunsmith. I use the WGRS on mine for elk hunting in Colorado, works good!
