Century Arms Mauser
« on: June 06, 2006, 11:33:04 AM »
:D Has anyone seen used a Century Arms Mauser? I found one at my local gunshop in 270 Win for $ 229.00. Does this sound like a fair price and is it worth that. It has 24" tube and laminated stock. Action is clean as is the bore. My favorite caliber is the 270 and thought another rifle in that cal. would be a nice addition. What ya think?

Century sold Spanish made commercial Mausers made after FN got out of the Model 98 business. Santa Barbara used the same actions. They are certainly not up to Obendorf's craftsmanship standards, and I think today's CZ actions are better also. However they are Mauser 98s, and don't need to be of the best materials or workmanship to be safe. The design takes care of that. I'd buy one at the price you quoted. Although a Stevens 200 would be a better shooter.

I have a century arms centurian with 24" barrel in 30/06 for a similar price,  it has a cheap synthetic stock though.  It is a great rifle, light weight and a great shooter.  I wouldn't think twice about getting another one.
