S&W Model 15-4 and Geographical price differences

Howdy
I see from your location this may have a very different effect on revolver prices. I Live in The Eastern Part of The United States, and around here an average for a model 15 in general is around the 300.00 Mark. I have always wondered why they do not bring more but suspect the fact of them being a .38 Special may contribute to this, as most are looking for the .357 magnums when purchasing a revolver.Another thing that effects price is condition, and age of a revolver. If the model 15 was to be the older Pinned and recessed style chances are it would net a higher premium when selling it from what I have seen in my area again. I searched long and hard for one of the Model 15's in a clean Nickel finish to no Avail. I came across a cross breed of model 15 of sorts at a recent gun show. The seller explained no one wanted this revolver as it was a .38 special. I noted it was Not a model 15 but a close second the model 14. One thing that looked Odd to me was that this revolver had a 4" Target style Bull barrel, and a Baughman quick draw sight which is normally found Only on a model 15 and 4" Barrels forund on 15's are the tapered variety, never a Bull Barrel. The seller was private and said he was looking for a fixed sight revolver to replace it. I happened to have a model 10-7 with me that was New In Box, and he seemed pleased to swap me the 14-2 shown. When I got home is when it got real interesting.. Come to find out this revolver I had swapped for is a limited special ordered revolver made in 1966. It was ordered by 'Dayton Outdoor Sport's"  out of Dayton, Ohio and they ordered a total of 2038 of these like it. All of them were to have the special 4" bull Barrel not offered on any 14 or 15 prior to this along with the front Baughman quick draw site, only to be found on the model 15 previous to this. it is also a pinned on sight as well, as most were forged in the frame. The choice of finishes was Blued or Nickel, and Nickel being the more rare finish ordered back then. There was a special 4 block serial number placed on these revolver's that were produced and sent within a three year period starting in 1965 and ending in 1968. You could have had a choice of hammer's and trigger's and mine are the narrow versions as shown. This is the most accurate .38 Special I have ever fired with almost No recoil present ,due to the Bull barrel and balance is perfect with the 4" barrel. You never know what you will come across when looking, and I am happy to say I have a total of $225.00 in this one, as that is what I paid for the one I swapped to him. Take care, Hammerdown

I got my Model 15 a few months ago, heavy barrel, very tight and smooth but showing a bit of use, for $275.

It's a great revolver, balance and feel is about the best of any duty revolver I have ever owned. They are hard to beat.
