Taurus Raging 30 stuck cases
« on: May 23, 2006, 04:27:45 PM »
Is it normal to have to beat the cases out of the cylinder with a rod and hammer? Usually on a round of 8, I have at least 3-4 that will not come out easily. It is never the same 4 either.

This is with all different types of ammo.

I wouldn't even think of trying to use the moon clips.

I've cleaned even tried to polish with steel wool in the cylinders. Any suggestions?

The next thing that I am goint to try is to use a slide hammer I made out of brass.

+1, call Taurus and ask them to service it.

Can you tell where on the cases it is sticking?

The cases stick at the back of the cartridge

Usually there will be a streak of black down the side or part way down the side and then there will be a spot near the back of the case just in front of the rim with a black spot.

A wack with a wooden dowel and a mallet will knock them loose and I can shoot again. The next time, that cylinder hole may release just fine. It is just hard to predict.

I'm wondering if the mouth of the cylinders are too large and the case is not sealing up against them when I shoot. Does this sound right?

That almost sounds like either a slpit case or just the opposite with returned soot from the case not having enough pressure to seal correctly.
It depends on what the black streak is.

Another easy fix, do you leave any oil in the chambers before you shoot? You should not, and you should wipe them out before beginning your shooting for the day since we all tend to leave a thin coat of oil after cleaning.
