I converted a model 200 stevens 308 winchester to a 6.5 X 284 ...new stock , pacnor barrel,.slick sav-2 trigger...I set it up with the old scope & mounts to try it out ...weaver bases, millet rings & a trusty old 8 X 24 BSA scope that fit..Had the gun shop bore sight it...Total waste of time & ammo...it was shootin way high & left...I got it on the paper doing a fiddle job with those adjustable millet rings, the gun shot well enough ..so I ordered a good burris scope & warne rings....THe new scope & rings arrived .....Burris 8 X 32 with a 50 something AO lens & high Warne mounts & rings...Big Aliangment problem...scope points to the right barrel to the left...At only 20 yds the scope sights are all the way right & the gun is shooting 6.5 inches to the left...I switched to aluminum weaver bases & ground them to get near center...4 tries & I'm to within an inch & a half of being there....scope is still hard to the right all the way...HOW FAR DOWN DARE I GRIND OFF metal on these cheap bases

I'm polishing off a thousanth or two at a time from the front [right side] rear [left side]...I'm close to getting it on the center but I'm getting nevous these ground to fit bases won't hold up to the recoil of the caliber ..the scope weights like two pounds...Any Ideas
