Dumb question about Ultra Hunter / Muzzleloader conversion
« on: April 13, 2006, 12:32:43 PM »
I have just purchased a 25/06 Ultra Hunter. Can I get a muzzleloader barrel that would work with the stock?

First of all, welcome aboard imograss :D , now that thats done, yes, just order a muzzleloader barrel from H&R. You will have to send the reciever to them for them for them to fit it to the reciever but from then on it's less than a minute to swap from 25-06 to ML. The barrel comes with the special forearm and loading rod....have fun!!!....<><....

Thanks for the reply. What all is needed for the swap? Any idea as far as how long it takes after it is sent in, and the cost (excluding barrel)?

Yes, as long as you plan on putting a scope on it. You wont be able to get low enough on the comb to shoot open sights comfortably.

Barrel Accessory Program. Read all the information then scroll down to Huntsman barrels. You may want to call Customer Service (Call H&R 1871 at 978-630-8220) an ask about the 26" barrels if you are interested in one of those, they have them but they are not listed.

imograss, if you do want to use iron sights with the ML barrel mounted it only takes about 2 or 3 minutes to swap out the Monte Carlo stock with a straight low comb stock. One of the reasons these guns are so popular is the ease and speed and low cost of reconfiguring them to whatever you want or need and the many varied available options. Another factor is the reasonable cost. A little bit of addittional info for you is that the H&R ML's are among the most accurate ML's on the market. Many here shoot very small (tiny!) groups at 100 yards with theirs. I am sure when you get set up, or if you want to get some info about what to try, members here will help with info and loads, bullets, powders, tips, etc. This is a friendly place full of people who are willing to share info and help others. As a matter of fact, many of us here, as is found in most of life, are just full of it!!! :D....<><....

P.S. if you do want to use the ML barrel with a scope, and many here do because of their great inherent accuracy, you can order it with a forearm to match your Ultra laminated buttstock. Be sure to discuss this aspect with the good people at CS (customer service) before you order the barrel, otherwise you will get a regular wooden forearm. Also ask them for a new catalog AND an accessory and additional barrel catalog. Good luck new buddy, you are quite probably about to become a Handiholic, but rest easy, you are among friends here. So just relax, ease back, and enjoy the ride!!!....<><....
