Browning Acera
« on: April 06, 2006, 11:53:27 AM »
Do I have the only Acera Rifle ever imported into the U.S. I have had her for a few years now and have never seen another. Have seen a few on Gun Auctions, but no where else. I love this rifle. It is accurate and fast handling. Just too pretty. The stock is a Zebra Wood, I beleive walnut... It is gorgeous. I mostly leave it home for fear of scratching it. There are approximatly 600 imported, This I read on the net and was not verifed. The straight pull bolt action works well, Most perfer an Auto loader like the B.A.R.   but I like the hands on approach. I wish I could brag about a nice deer taken with her but I can't. I have had a few chances but they wer too small, not a safe shot etc. Oh well..

We have a NIB Acera at the Gander Mountain where I work....  Checked 'er out for the first time yesterday and was really impressed with that action.  We have had it on clearance for around $519 and someone finally had us put it on hold for 'em.  The only problem is that since they were discontinued, Browning has NO PARTS for them anymore.

When they first came out, I thought they sounded interesting, and made some inquirys leaving my name at several places - no one ever called me back.  I've never been able to "heft" one to get its feel and see if its something I'd like to try.

I've owned a Ross and still have an M95, so I do have an affinity for straight-pull bolts (but absolutely no interest in lift-bolts for hunting).

I'd guess if the US got 600 of these, Canada probably got about 2. :x
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!

I don't think most of the parts , if ever needed would be a problem since the Acera is basicaly a BAR with no gas system. I bet all the trigger components are the same. The Acera is just missing all the parts that make up the gas system etc. Very simple design using BAR parts. Less is better..

My Acera is topped with a Meopta scope---got both on clearance for a steal----funny thing is I've had the thing for a couple years now and haven't even taken it out and shot it---just too busy with motorcycles and kids this time of year and my other guns when it cools off---the Acera always seems to get left in the safe.

Parts aren't a problem and you can even use a BLR mag in a pinch---look at the international part of Browning's web site----the Acera is still sold in Europe.
