Encore Black Powder Barrel Bullet???
« on: March 18, 2006, 08:02:14 AM »
The TC section of the gun shop has only saboted bullets for the black powder barrels.

Here in Colorado we can not use saboted bullets in a black powder rifle.

Can you shoot a regular lead ball or conical bullet from a black powder barrel from an Encore??

Why would you want the saboted version anyway?

Thanks

In Colorado you can however shoot the power belts. A lot of people use them in Colorado, also I have shot conical bullet in my Encore with good success.

1:28 twist barrels will like, mostly, 400-450g conicals available from www.prbullet.com or the Hornady 450g plains conical.
Also www.foxridgeoutfitters.com  sells a 1:48 twist T/C barrel for Encores that will allow you to shoot the 350g class, maxi-balls and maxi-hunters, conicals.
I think they also offer that barrel as a 23" cabine.

Power belt has a new 444 gr flat nose bullet that would be better for elk than their old bullets. I friend of mine has used the aero tips (actually a hollow point with a plastic tip) and has lost elk due to bullet failure. Even in the elk he got he said they barley penetrated and came apart. The flat point 444 will stay together and penetrate better.

Power Belts are easy to load and deal with. You don't have to deal with lube and they go in easy. It is basically conical with a plastic gas check.

The newer encores have a 1 in 28 twist . The Katahdin carbine barrel is 20 in.long , standard Encore is 26 and new Pro Hunter is 28.

Not everybody has them in stock since they are new. I ordered some from Midsouth supply.
