Went Deer hunting one cold morning just before sunrise. On walking to my stand, it started to lightly rain. Before I could get to my stand, several doe and two yearings came out of woods to graze about 75 yards from me on opposite side of field I was about to cross. I'm in the open, but manage to back up to a large OAK tree without spooking them. The deer slowly moved in my direction as they grazed. Soon a nice 4 point buck joined them. Any time I moved, they looked in my direction, like they were ready to run back into woods. So, I stood as still as I could leaning against that tree. Well, the winds had picked up and you could feel the temperatures drop even lower. There always seemed to be at least one of them always looking in my direction. After what seemed forever of this cat and mouse game, I decided to get off a quick shot at the buck. Thought I would quickly step forward with my left foot, raising my rifle from it cradled position in my arms to my shoulder in one co-ordinated movement and quickly shoot. They were about 60 yards from me, so I knew a hurried shot should not be too hard. Well this neatly thought out plan didn't work. Had stood so long in the same spot staring at the deer, I had not noticed the wet ground was now icy. So, I began my move to shoot only to fall flat on my face. My feet had frozen to the ground. Of course, I could hear the deer laughing as they ran into the woods.
