Hi Guys,
I tried to respond to your e-mails from Feb. and could not. Please let me apologize for not checking that I had any at all. I'm too used to responding here on the forum. (To everyone else, just trying to offer a belated response to e-mailed questions).
BigBoar...I've not hunted Battenkill. I thought they were too pricey. If I'm going to pay 3k for aoudad, I'm going to TX and it's got to be an SCI top ten. Wild Hill is the preserve I hunt in VT. It's really huge and most folks have a descent time. The accomodations are good, the food is edible, though not fancy and the guides are OK for the the activity. It's a big preserve and has been in business for decades. You can stand hunt, still hunt or ride the ATV's all over the place. It's not texas, you hunt what is on the preserve and you may or may not have a lot of choice, but, he has animals that tend to be SCI bronze or silver medals. For me, I can get there without a plane ride and get'r done in a weekend. I like it for when I'd like to get out in woods and don't have much time.
45454....you asked about the boar in my avetar. It weighed 318lbs live weight. The butcher took it to his shop and his help, the preserve owner and I each bet $1 to see who could come closest. I said 390, the preserve owner said 420, the junior butchers said 405 and 410. The head butcher told us that we were all idiots....he said 320 - 325. He was closest. The mauser is a large ring, belgian made sporter that came from a south american contract. The caliber was and is 7x57 and it is sweet, The barrel is original though put on the lathe and polished and shortened to 21". The stock is a fajen. The trigger is a timney. I had a 1/2" recoil pad put on to add some length and then had the receiver drilled and tapped for a scope. The bolt was already bent and I had a beuhler low thumb safety put on because of the scope.
Hope my responses make sense and I promise to check the GBO e-mail system more often.
Best regards!
