Gang - Have acquired 3# of 777. Have no experience with it, did read the reducuction in load warning. Too cold here to be shooting. Wonder how clean it is. BTW use a Handi-Rifle in 45-70.

Here is the Hodgdon's page that lists the Pyrodex loads for a 45/70.  They list the load for a 45/70 at 65 grains by volume.  I have loaded Pyrodex befor just for plinking by filling the 45/70 case with enough to get me 1/16th to 1/8th inch compression when I seat the bullet and they are quite mild compared to 70 grains of the real 2F black powder.

There are a couple of pages on Hodgdon's site about loading with Pyrodex and 777.  Take a look at them and you should be on your way.
Thanks,

Welcome to GBO!!  :D Hodgdon has T7 data for the 45-70 for 2 bullets.

You might find this a helpful...

You should check out the NEF/H&R Centerfire forum up the page, too, there are several Handi and BC owners that shoot blackpowder there. My experience in my .45-120 BC was lots of bore leading with cast bullets and T7, but it was a limited attempt, T7 costs as much as smokeless, but the load requires twice as much of it, so I didn't use it long.

I ran some tests for accuracy and velocity using T7 in my 40-70 Shiloh Sharps # 1 Sporter with MVA tang and front sights.  All shooting was done from a bench.  It is indeed a  more powerful powder than the real stuff but in my particular rifle and one bullet it was not as accurate as black.  It certainly had enough accuracy for hunting but for me I wouldn't want to shoot a match with it in that rifle with that bullet.  Fouling was negligible  If I couldn't get black I'd be using T7.
