Adams & Bennett Barrels
« on: March 07, 2006, 04:08:22 PM »
I have an older Savage 110 E in 223.  I notice Midway had Adams & Bennett  varmit contour barrels clearanced.  My first question is will the 1 in 14" rifling be a serious problem for bullet selection and second does any one have experience with these barrels.

No idea about the rifle twist but I put a 257 Roberts Adams Bennet on a mauser. It's a little rough inside and is finicky.
I clean it bare, then 4 fouling shots. It's good for about 15 rounds before groups open. I didn't build it for a daily shooter, it works for me and would do it again.

BTW I just shot it today, last 3 shots inside 1/2". And it will do that regularly.  I believe they have improved the insides to on the new ones.

That will probably limit you to 55gr and lighter bullets. And even some of those that are long, like the Blitz Kings may not stabilize.  KN

I agree with KN you will most likely be limited from using the "heavy" bullets. As far as experience. I took a .270 winchester and rebarrelled it to 338-06. The experience was good and the rifle shoots just fine. I paid significantly more when I bought mine than Midway now sells them. I can only guess they were not a big sales success.

The price preformance ratio makes it a big winner for me.
