Finally got around to buyin a .22-250 today!! I ordered it from an auction on Guns America. Its a NIB 700 VS. Remington discontinued it a couple years ago. Either way, its a Heavy barrel, no flutes, HS Precision stock, black with grey webbing color, and aluminum bedding block. It also was a great deal. I got it for $560 including shipping, original box, and all papers. The best prices on the same rifles on Gunbroker and other ones on Guns America I could find were in the $600 to $700 range, so I think I did pretty good! The guy I ordered it from was real nice and easy to do business with also. Hopefully it will be here by Tuesday or Wednesday, just in time before I go to Mississippi on thursday to hopefully blast some yotes! Does anybody have any factory ammo suggestions that would shoot well out of it, since I won't have time to go to my friends house and work up some loads for it and test them? Congrats! Awesome caliber and awesome rifle at a great price!

I like the VS you got more than the current VSF because of the stock colors, again, Congrats!

Let us know how it shoots!

We can give you suggestions as far as what ammo to try but all guns are different, factory Rem and Federal should start you off well.

You can't beat a Remington in the 22-250. I have one with the bull barrel 26in long and it is a tack driver. I like it so much I just bought a new in the box ADL 22-250 for hunting and such today. Just got through cleaning it. The nice thing about a new Remington is a few swipes and it is clean at least even on their lower end guns the factory still takes some pride in them. I hope if weather permits to get it out tomorow.

sniperVLS, I feel the exact same way as you on the stock colors. I just prefer the black much more than the tan! Thats also what I was thinkin about on ammo too. Either Federal, Hornady, or Remington. Somewhere in the 50 to 55 grain range also maybe? What do y'all think?

hellacatcher, Thats is one thing that also I love about Remingtons, is how they take so much care into their work when others don't, even on the cheapest models.

I had one question too for everyone. It didn't specify in the auction and I forgot to ask the guy today when I bought it from him, but is my rifle gonna have the J-Lock on it? Thanks!

Email him and ask about the Jlock.

Dont let his answer change anything, grab that and enjoy it at that price.

Try different weights as far as ammo. Trial and error

Nothing wrong with the so-called J-Lock,just don't use it if you don't want to.It doesn't affect anything.I have one on my CDL,no big thing.

Since nobody else answered you about factory ammo I will give you a suggestion. I bought a box of the Remington UMC 50gr Hollow Points which is a 40 round box. I planned on using them to sight one of my 22-250s in with a new scope. I shot 3 five shot groups with this ammo at 100yds and got the following groups, 1", 1" and 7/8". Now that I feel is pretty good accuracy for factory ammo and it is fairly reasonable priced also.

Thanks George, I'll check that out. I'm definately not gonna let the J-Lock change my thoughts on this baby at all. I was just wondeerin if it would have it or not. I'm tickled to death about findin one at such a good price. Now is the worst part, I have to wait for it to get here! Anticipation! Oh well, at tht price a few days is well worth the wait!! Thanks!

Why should the J lock influence you one way or the other? Its just something the Rem bashers whine about. I THINK I have a J lock on my VS. From your description, it sounds like we have exactly the same rifle. For a few bucks, you can buy a replacement shroud. Or you can do as I did, unlock it and forget about it.

I'm on my second barrel on my VS but I've never shot a single round of store bought ammo thru it. If you reload, the old generic starting load of Rem brass, 55gr bullet, CCI (maybe BR) primer and 38grs of H380 should give you some good groups.

Once you get a chance to work with the rifle, you may find that skim bedding the aluminum bedding block will help your accuracy.

Well had the ADL 22-250 out this morning it did very well just as you would expect from a remington. Shooting some 50gr hornadys I had loaded got a group you could cover with a quarter at a 100yrds. I belive can do better but not dissapointed ar all.

The best store bought loads I have found for a 22-250 so far is federal 55gr.serra gameking give em try you mite like em. :-)

Hellacatcher, I just got back from the shootin store a little bit ago. I picked up a Leupold STD 700 RH SA 1 Piece Base, and a box of .22-250 ammo. The only box they had left was some Federal 55 grain Nosler Ballistic tips. I hope these will shoot well for me! Do y'all think they will? Thanks!

I have the same rifle in a lefty model. Mine was pre J lock not that it is a big deal. I did add a 40 xb trigger. Mine shoots nosler 50 gr ballistic tips and varget into .5 MOA groups

I just got back the other day from our place in mississippi where I got to shoot it. The 1st five shot group i shot with the federals was about 1 1/4" and the second was about an inch. Those were with the federal 55gr. NBT's. Thats nowhere near where I would like it to be, but its ok. I think there are a couple contributing factors to this. #1-It has an 8 yes 8 pound trigger!! Which is gettin fixed tomorrow down to about 2 pounds. #2- The barrel being brand new might be a little rough. and #3- I have read places that Remingtons like lighter bullets around 50 grains because they have a 1 in 14" twist. I really just need to get a bunch of different ammos and try them all but right now I don't have the time or the money to, but soon I'll be able to. I really wanna try the Remington 50gr. Accutips in it. I feel like they will do really good and i wanna try some of the hornady ammo, with the 50 and 55gr. V-Max. When I'm able to do all of this I'll let y'all know how shes doin. What do y'all think about how it shot. And remember all of those factors up there. Thanks!

Yeah, keep trying ammo until you find one she likes. Its always amazed me how the same model rifle can be so picky when it comes to such things. A friend and I bought a VLS at the same time. We took out Amer Eagle FMJ, Federal soft points, Rem Core Lokts, Rem soft points to break them in. Mine liked ALL of it and all shot exactly the same, whereas his only liked the Remington. Ive seen that happen all my life but he hadnt so it took some explaining :-D

Once you find what the barrel likes, you'll have a smile that wont go away, I guarantee it.

Congratulations on your M700 22-250.
I have a M700 VLS and really enjoy shooting it. It shoots .5 MOA with Nosler 50 gr BT's and VArget powder.
I have a Nikon 5.5x15.5 Monarch socpe on it.
The only downside is that it is a heavy rifle for walking.

Rimfire I am suprised that the 55 gr didn't do better but like was said may be some breaking in and a little trigger work. I had loaded up some 50 gr Hornady V- max's on top of 34.6 gr of IMR 4320. Out of a ADL 24in. barrel it is doing less than a 1/4 in at 100 yrds. Took it out this morning and poped a big ol coyote. Will admit I called her in less than a 100 ft before I seen her but that little V-max did a job on her. I am still impressed with the 55 gr in a 22-250.
