Iron Sights on a Model Seven
« on: February 15, 2006, 07:24:19 AM »
I just finished putting the iron sights back on my Model Seven (.308) rifle.  I'd taken them off about a decade ago when the custom rifle fad was sweeping this area due to Dakota Arms getting started and everyone had to have a custom.  Anyone caught in the woods or at range with a rifle that still had iron sights and a scope was risking ridicule, LOL.  Now I kinda miss the look of the sights and it makes the rifle not look so darn (18.5" barrel)stumpy.  Doesn't hinder the Simmons 3-9 Wide Angle in anyway either.  I'll go ahead and leave them off my 700 BDL 7Mag as it's heavy enough already :)  I just can't seem to remember if the (7) had a hooded front sight or not.  Any takers?

Thanks
Ben

I have three Remington M-7's!
I have a 223 Rem, 7mm-08 Rem and a 308 Win!

I took the back sights off of them because I scoped them, however, the front sights are still on them primarily because I don't have a sight pusher!   I agree with you, with those little "pencil" barrels, they look a little odd without the front sights!

Oh, btw none of my M-7 front sights have or had a hood on them!

Chuck,

Thanks for the information.  BTW, I punched out of the Air Force as well after 20yrs and 2months :)  I used a brass hammer and a wooden (hard walnut) punch to tap the sight/blade out and back in.  My Simmons scope is short enough not to come into contact with the front ramp.

Take Care
