Is there any truth to the rumor that you will be required to have a muzzleloading saftey certificate to hunt with a muzzleloader in New York next year?Slipshod

slipshod I teach the courses for the state and I have not hearda rumor at all. Since it is included in the basic gun course, I doubt they will make it separate.

I have heard that rumor kicking around for at least 4-5 years...It seems to be nothing more than that...A Rumor.  If you were required to attend a safety course I would think that the current muzzleloader tag purchasers would be grandfathered in some how.  Oh well, I guess only time will tell.

Slipshod,  It is just a rumor.  One that has been rolling around for quite some time!

I am pushing for a separate course for those who are in need of a safety class for their falconry license.  These folks have express no interest in using a firearm, now, or in the future.  Some refuse to even demonstrate safe gun handling/shooting in our classes, which is a requirement in my classes.  It is that, that has cause some severe problems for us instructors.

Again, not to worry about a separate muzzleloader course.  If you practice all of the basics, regardless of the implement you use, you will be a safe hunter in the woods.  Enjoy you time out in the woods.  Joe
