Let me be the first to say "THANKS" for the dedicated Browning Forum. I am a big fan of the entire Browning line. Although my arsenal only includes 2 A-bolts and BL-22 I'm always interested in hearing about any experiences people have with any of thier line. Speaking of which does anyone have some actual experiences with the Browning BAR's. I'm thinking about getting one in either .308 or 25-06. I'm not talking about the new Long Trac or Short trac but the older classic Safari style.

Thanks for starting out the post. I have had 2 browning BARS both in .300 win mag, i loved them both they are realible and accurate. my entire family, (both sides) carry browning bars in .300 win mag I belive there are one of the best deer and big game rifles on the market. A 30-06 or .308 in a bar would be a very good choice. I also just bought a browing A-bolt in .270wsm it looks and feels like a good rifle I havent picked it up yet but when I do I will be sure to post my findings.

I own only one Browning, a LH ABolt Stainless Stalker in 25/06. I purchased it new in 1990. I"m hoping to add a SSA .223 Hunter LH when the finances permit.

I love my A Bolt!

I've got a BAR safari in .308 win. and at 100 yards it shoots 1 inch 3 shot groups with win. 150 gr. power-points. Thats all I've tried in it and was satisfied. It functions great, never jammed, and is very pleasant to shoot. Great gun.

I just shot my A-bolt .270wsm. I'm really impressed it shoots 1'' groups at 100yds with the new federal fusion 150gr shells. I think i'm goin take it out tonight and try and shoot a doe.

I must have gotten a headstart on you young guys. I've got a Belgium Safari (FN long extractor) in .375 H&H. 2 Citoris, A GTI & an Ultra SX, A model 42 reproduction .410 pump. and a model 1071 .380 built to circumvent the GCA 68's import restrictions, a strange little pistol. Imagine a .380 semi auto with target sights and a thumbrest grips, with a grip safty.

My first rifle when I was 12 was the first year they made the A-bolt in 25-06. What an accurate gun with all the best features of a bolt gun .:grin: This is the most overlooked bolt gun out there. Until the Tikka came along, I personally don't know why anyone would own anything else?

When I was 16 I wanted the fire power of the automatic and picked up a BAR in .280. It shot okay 1-2 inch groups, but that gun has put a lot of venison in the freezer. A few years later I picked up a BLR in 7mm-08. This gun is very accurate. Under 1 inch groups all day long. One of my other favorites is my B-78 single in 25-06 (another fine tack driver).

Only had one bad Browning rifle and quickly got rid of it, and that was an A-bolt in 22-250.

I had a BPS, but didn't like it too much. So then had the option of buying a sweet sixteen or a citori 12, and I went with the citori. A great gun, but man I wish I would have picked up that new sweet sixteen for $465. Been kicking myself everyday since. Since then I have bought Citori's in 16 and 20 gauge and are both fine guns.

Probably my favorite is my BL-22, just love that little gun. Love my Browings, all sitting cozily in the Browning safe tonight.

I hunt with all of them, and haven't had a problem with one of them yet. :grin:

There are 12 Browning in my safe, all are dead reliable guns.
Both BAR's shoot very well. The 7 Mag has less felt recoil then the 06 due to the factory recoil pad. Stainless Stalker needed to be fire lapped before it would shoot well. My first choice is a BLR in 358 Nothing gets away from that combo!

I'm also glad to see a Browning forum here. Like Dave I also have some older models - side by side 20 guage, Sweet Sixteen, BT-99, .22 auto, T-Bolt, Safari grade .308 with the Mauser action, 52 Sporter, 71 carbine, 92 carbine in .44 mag, and a Jonathon Browning mountain rifle in .50 caliber.

Also a GP High Power and a model 125 .380 semi auto with target sights and thumbrest grips, with a grip safety that sounds a whole lot like the gun Dave describes as a model 1071.

I hope to see a lot of Browning discussions in this new forum.

EDIT: Just did some research, Browning calls their version a model 10/71, FN calls theirs a model 125. Identical guns although the grips appear to be different. Mine is the Browning but I saw the 125 designation in 'Small Arms of the World' and there is no model number on the gun anywhere, so I've always called it a 125. Guess I need to update my records.

Well now it's oficial, I'm an old fart. Untill I read your post I forgot I have a BT-99 also. DUHHHHH! Now I'll have to go down and check the safe to see what else I forgot

Yes I have "several" and I like everyone of them. I have NEVER had a Browning go down in value. Can't say that about any other brand I've owned.

One thing does Pi** me off about browning. The cost of extra magazines. How can .22 bolt action cost $250.00 and an extra mag cost $40.00? 10-15% of the cost of a firearm for a piece of tin?
