What shotguns have you used over the years?

What shotguns have you used over the years and when did you start?

I started duck hunting in 1963 and my gun was my grandfathers LC Smith 12ga. SXS next was a 870 Wingmaster, then a Browning A-5 and finally a Super Black Eagle.  I'm now considering getting rid of the SBE and purchasing a CZ 12 ga. SxS or O/U.  I guess it's called going full circle.

Whats wrong with the benelli?Ive recently bought myself an m2 and am really looking forward to Jan.

Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with the Benelli.  Your M2 will give you many years of fine hunting.  I originally purchase the SBE to replace my 2 ¾” Browning A-5 which I have used since 1972 and wanted something with a little more horse power for turkeys (3 1/2”) and I wanted a recoil operated shotgun and since the A-5’s were discontinued I went to the SBE.  My only criticism about the SBE is it’s very punishing shooting 3.5” shells and I only use 3” in it.  If I had to do it all over again I would of hunted for an A-5 NIB.  Felt recoil does seems less in the A-5 (2 ¾”sheels) over the SBE.  I do like the old hump back.  I mentioned full circle.  I started with a SXS 12ga. and want to go back.  Over the years I’ve hardly ever used the third shot in the A-5 so a double would fit the bill.  Concerning hunting turkey I'm in the process of building a French Type D Trade gun (20ga muzzle loader) and I plan to use on turkey next year.  So  much for needed a 3.5> 12 ga.

Enjoy you M2 they are good shotguns.

I've been using a 12 gauge Franchi semi auto since the early 60s. When I first got it I couldn't hit much of anything with it. Not until I began to load only "one" shell anyway. After a season of doing that I was hitting most all my shots because I was working hard at calling them in close and getting one real good shot, instead of 3 lousy ones. If you are missing your ducks a lot, give that a try. You'll be amazed how much better you'll shoot.

My first was an old Ithaca 37, then a Mossberg 835, I like the 37 better.

Good topic.

First was an Ithaca 37, 16 gauge (prior to steel shot).  It is my dads, but he let me use it before I had my own gun.

When I was 14 I received a Remington 1100 for my birthday.  Used it all the time for about ten years.  Now it just stays in the safe.

When I graduated from college my dad bought me an 11-87.  I use it alot and for small ducks and upland game.

Then I bought me a SP-10 as a promotion present to myself in 92.  Have used it ever since for ducks, geese and turkey.

As you can see I am a Remington man.

Started in 1951 with a Ithaca 37 16 ga., got an 870 the next year in a 12.  Think it was the next year, may be 2 yrs. later.  After that gravitated to SxSs and never looked back.  Usually had a pump gun available if hunting in brackish water in SW La.  Have been known and take an O/U to the marsh once in awhile (rarely).  But I do think one should hunt with what ever they are the most comfortable with.

It's been years since I've hunted much waterfowl but time is making sitting easier than walking behind pointer's! My favorite waterfowl gun was a Mossberg 500 with a 28" mod choke. I've use a lot of guns. Browning Double Auto, Bernadelli Delux Gamecock, Charles Daly 500, AyA Matador, Remington 870, Ithica mod 37 (still have that one), Iver Johnson single barrel, Mossberg bolt action. Think there was another but can't think of it right now.

Thinking of starting waterfowl again but that will require a new Lab! Or maybe a Springer! One thing seem's to lead to another doesn't it? ;D
