Trying to identify 2 mortars in a cemetary in southern Ohio
« on: December 04, 2005, 10:45:03 AM »
Ran across 2 mortars in a three man cemetary in southern Ohio.
U.S. was stamped behind the touch hole,1865 was stamped on the face   "the bussiness end". If anyone knows of a good website , possibly with pictures of this era mortars I'd be extremely grateful if you could pass them on to me.Tried Civil War sites, but I don't have the time to visit all 200,000 + sites.
      Many thanks

As far as my smokepoles, I shoot a 50cal TC New Englander, and a 40cal North Carolina long rifle I built.
Also getting ready to start building a 45cal Hawken style.

If you can't post pictures, get the measurements.  Overall length, bore diameter at the muzzle and diameter of the body.  Also, a basic description of each might help.
