452 range report
« on: November 13, 2005, 06:57:44 PM »
I posted on this prior to this forum being established. Best friend bought the 452 in .17 HMR for a ground squirrel trip last spring.  Put Warne rings and a Burris 3x9 scope on it.   We used a custom bench and a truck tailgate to get the thing on paper and sighted in at 100 yards. Once we had the paper, made a few adjustments, he let me fire 5 for a grouping........     we both thought "wow, that sucked" since through a spotting scope we could only see one round. We walked down to the target and were both shocked to see a 5 shot group with all the shots pretty much touching. Cover the group with a dime.    Had to be an accident.....    I did the same thing AGAIN.     "Here YOU do it, its YOUR gun". And darned if he didn't cut a nice tidy group with it.

That entire afternoon, any squirrel dumb enough to show a body part out to about 150 yards got blown to bits. The HMR is like dynamite and what a flat, accurate little bullet. We shot 3 -4 50 round boxes and missed maybe 15-20 squirrels.

I loved my Marlin (past tense, get it), but I'm buying one of these things before next spring.  Be nice to know if the .22 mag is just as accurate.  Anyone???

Glad to hear some of these comments.  I realized recently that of 23 rifles I don't own a rimfire.  I've been shopping around and really like the CZ452, especially the bulled barrel with the 20" tube.  I'm not wild about the projecting magazine but can live with it.  I should have mine by next month.  Best wishes.

I have two 452's, a .22 lr and a .17hmr, both are tackdrivers.  I put trigger kits in both of them, took the .22's trigger down to 2 lbs w/no creep, and the .17's I left at about 3 1/2 lbs.  I use the .22 for silhouette competition, hence the lighter trigger.  Nice rifles, very nice price.

If anyone hears of someone with a 452 in .22 WMR, please post any comments about it if you would be so kind.....especially the accuracy and what ammo seems to work.  I should have noted the 17HMR was shooting Hornaday factory stuff with the Vmax plastic tip (sorry, I forget the grain).

I'm torn between the .22 WMR and the 17 HMR.  I do see that CDNN has the 452 in 17 Mach whatever its called for like $240 bucks, but I'm holding out for one in the other calibers.

I just traded for a CZ 452 in .17 HMR, and I should have it by next week.  I've always wanted a .17 rimfire, and this one should not disappoint.  Now, I have to find a scope for it!
