Any IL muzzleloader hunters here?

Looked through the IL hunting regs. It says only percussion caps, flints, etc are legal for muzzleloaders. Says nothing about shotgun primers such as the popular 209 primer. Can any of you IL hunters shed some light on this? It very well may determine what type of BP rifle I end up buying!

JimG,

Not from IL, but I think 209's fall under percussion. I know there are guys from IL that have 209 only ignitions so I am VERY sure they are legal.

In IL about anything goes now with muzzleloaders.  209's, pellets, scopes and now this year smokeless powder as well ( Savage MLII).  About the only restriction is no bullets below 44 cal diameter.
I have a huntsman (blue) scoped and added a huntsman stainless with williams peep for a Co. elk gun.

ILHunter,

You have a very nice set-up there. I have been kicking around the idea of sending in my receiver for a new 26" SS Huntsman barrel (to scope) and leaving my 24" SS Huntsman barrel set up for Colorado with the Williams peep and Fire-Sight. Our muzzleloader season starts next Friday and it looks like i will be using the peep instead of a scope unless I get the scope mounted and shoot it this week. I just don't like switching back and forth. Maybe I should use one of my other 6 muzzleloaders (3 Whites, 2 Knights & 1 T/C), but I just like the Huntsman enough that it's my #1 go-to gun.

My Huntsman receiver has my 20ga Ultra Slug Hunter LE barrel, stock and forend mounted on it for our firearms season that ends Wednesday. That way I have the exact same trigger for all my deer hunting.

I do know first hand that the Huntsman not only makes a fine deer rifle it makes a fine elk hunting rifle for the Colorado Rockies too.

Thanks guys. I ended up buying a percussion fired traditional BP rifle anyhow.
