Colt Anaconda
« on: August 21, 2006, 06:51:08 AM »
What is the general opinion of the Colt Anaconda revolvers?  I'm thinking of picking one up as my new hunting handgun.  Really ike the looks and the balance feels very good.  Going open sights, so not concerned with the lack of scope mounting holes.  My typical ranges for a clean shot are in the 25-50yard range.

Thanks.

Excellent revolvers, but I like Colts!  Smooth, accurate shooters.

If YOU like and it turns out to be as ACCURATE as you think, make it YOUR gun.  Keep it and use it.  I don't think you should pass on it, if we who post recommend all have OUR favorites.  We should all enjoy what we shoot.

I have not heard of big reliability issues on the Anaconda.  It's heavy so it should hold up to the recoil.  Every gun can have an occasional break.  That's why we have gunsmiths to fix or modify such small stuff.

I did look to get one myself but funds dried up.  Just like every time I want something I can't live without.

Like I said, IF YOU LIKE IT, THEN GET IT.
Just my 2 cents

I have two, one 6" and one 4". The six incher is the smoothest most accurate pistol I have ever owned. The 4 incher I hav'nt shot yet. Just picked it up a couple of weeks ago and work hasn't allowed me the time to shoot it yet. It is just as smooth as the other one though. These are getting hard to find so if you want it you better jump. From what I found an unfired 44 will cost you a grand. Used ones start around $750 in good shape. One in 45 colt is starting at $1250.  KN

I was debating the Anaconda or taking the leap to a S&W 460.  I like its versatility in shooting three different cartridges.  I've held the XVR and X models.  Wish they made it somewhere in between...say 7".  The 8-3/8" is just a bit too nose heavy.  The 5" is nice, but too short a barrel for some states.  A 7" barrel with the interchangeable comp would give you 6" of barrel.

Anyhow, it sounds like I should jump on it.  Worst case, I could probably recover my money on a sale.  I had just paid back the family funds for another pistol I just had to have.  Fortunately, my wife hadn't deposited the money yet, so I have money in hand....a very dadngerous condition!  I'll post if I'm lucky tomorrow and the Anaconda didn't sell over the weekend.

Thanks for the feedback.

My 6" Anaconda sports a Bushnell Holoscope, great item for old eyes.  Great trigger too.

Well, I now own a Colt Anaconda with a 6" barrel in 45 Colt.  Thanks for the insight.  Yes, I will probably own a S&W 460 some day too, but 45 Colt is plenty for the game I'm hunting and the shots I'll be offered.  I was able to haggle a little, but not as much as I hoped.  Of course, after I had my cash on the counter I discovered that the "original case" was an original Colt case, but lacked the packaging sticker with the revolver information.  Heck, I intend to make it a long term hunting buddy anyhow.  Not sure how "factory fresh" it's going to look after a few years in the brush!

Too much.....my 45 Colt fancy is too expensive.  The final haggling left me $778 poorer.  Of course, now it's rainning Anacondas in 44 mag.  My favorite dealer has one with a Leupold 2x mounted on it.

If I find an Anaconda in 45 Colt with either a 4", 6", or 8" barrel my credit card is gonna just flat out jump out of my wallet and land on the counter!!  I REALLY like my 6" 44 mag Anaconda, the trigger is a delight.
