Another falls victim to the Huntsman
« on: November 30, 2005, 03:51:01 AM »
Didn't see a deer all morning.....until I climbed down from my stand.  Kicked up three does about 35 yards out.  I knew they would not cross a road to my right so I walked slowly towards them.  Sure enough, they buttonhooked back around with two of them bounding off to my left.  The other one charged straight to me...I had to shoot in self defense.  A 240 gr. XTP under 2 pyro pellets smack in the center of the chest at 15 feet left no doubt.  She turned out to be 120 lbs dressed.  Not bad for the freezer.  Next week will be shotgun.  Ambush :D

:D congratulations on your deer. I hate when you need to shoot them in self defense :)

Tcb -Never did recover the bullet.  It didn't exit, just a nice small hole in the chest.  I was very interested to dress the animal to see the bullet, but I wasn't gonna dig through the guts to find it.  Bye the way, the internals didn't appear to be that ripped up either.  I was surprised at that considering the way she dropped like a ton of bricks.  I recovered one last year from a broadside shot.  Lodged in the ribs on the far side of the animal.  An almost perfect mushroom, approx. 30% expansion with little or no jacket separation.
