Author Topic: Browning A-Bolt in .375? (Read 1222 times)

What do you guys think of this rifle? I am leaning toward getting the stainless Stalker in .375 H&H. I'll use it for moose and possibly for my trip to Alaska next year.

I think the Winchester M70 Classic Stainless in .375 H&H is a better rifle. Too many stories of pot metal and broken bolt handles on the Browning A-Bolt for me.

In .375 H&H I would rather have te Ruger or Winchester than Browning, Remington or even CZ. Just to many problems reported to go into here with the last ones. Lawdog

I would go with Sako or Ruger in the 375H&H.

I would have to disagree. I have 2 Browning A-bolts and they are very good guns. I have a 243 and a 338 win Mag. Why would you call them junk if you don't mind answering?

I don't know about brownings being junk, I really like my Eurobolt in 243 w/boss. At the same time I REALLY like my winchester classic stainless 375. Its just a great gun all around. My only real complaint is that its a little heavier than I would like. I'm planning on getting some custom work done to it to fix that though. I don't think you can go wrong with the win classic. One thing that would be nice would be a nicer stock. I'm getting a nice ultra light kevlar stock for mine. The hogue overmolded stock is a really nice one too.

Wood not sealed at action inletting.
Whippy barrels.
Aluminum parts that should be steel.
Rear action screw poorly designed.
Horrible magazine design.

Man I am glad I never had those problems when I went hunting. :eek: :shock: :-D

Lawdog I have seen this first hand. In 1983 a cousin and I were Elk hunting he was behind me flip the safety off and it fired. Borrowed gun 7mm rem mag in 700 bolt action. I almost soiled my self.

Don't feel bad it scared the hell out of me too. The Under Sheriff was showing me his new M700 BDL. I watched as he took it out of the box and he worked the bolt, engaged the safety and when he released the safety the firing pin was released. We both worked with that rifle and it would do it over 50% of the time. The Under Sheriff put the rifle back in the box, grabbed his hat and the box headed for the store where he bought it. So don't feel bad, it has happened to a number of us. Lawdog
