I have been thinking about having a CZ 550 made into a 25-06. Does anyone know what caliber I would need to start this off with? Would this process be expensive for a smith to do for me? I could handle $200 or so on top of the rifle purchase. What do ya all think?

Any gun with a .473 bolt face and long action will work. 30-06 etc....

$200 will NOT get it done.

Aftermarket barrel....$150-$400 Shaw, Hart, Shilen, Douglas, Lilja. Broughton....the list goes on

Chamber and fit $150-$350

Places like PacNor will do all the above for $500...I think.

For another $300 on top of gun purchase, you MIGHT be able to get it done......MIGHT!!!!

Can you not bore out the current barrel and resleeve it and save yourself from buying a new barrel?

FYI CZ now has a custom shop I dunno what they would charge you but they do build rifles in custom calibers. Just check out the last page of thier 2005 catalouge.

You can bore them out if you want to go bigger. Sleeving isn't usually done with bottle necked centerfire rounds. So no you really can't do that and even if you did you'd save no money.

You're looking at a barrel replacement and nope $200 ain't gonna get it done.
