I'm buying a M-77 in a 350 rem..I want to put an adjustable trigger on it whats the best one you guys have found.Does anyone make a double trigger for a M-77.Thanks for your help. :-)

Dave,

I think Timney is the way to go. I have one installed on a Compact that "breaks" at 2 lbs 1 oz.

However, if I was to go this route again, I would try the follwing first. Brownell sells a reduced power return spring which I would install. While I had the trigger/sear disassembled, I would polish up the sear/trigger contact surfaces with 400 or finer grit sandpaper or a polishing compound in a Dremel.

The spring from Brownell's is about 4 bucks.

Do a search under "scoutman" . There's a thread back there which discusses this whole situation, and one person's personal experience on the installation of the Timney. Sorry I can't remember the thread.

i've done three Model 77 Mk II triggers per the www.centerfirecentral.com instructions......which is an article that includes a link to a drawing to help understand what you want to do.. my results were fantastic. the website has a gunsmithing/projects icon that will lead you to a few articles about Ruger and Remington trigger work.

i left in the factory spring on the Model 77's - FWIW.

you've got to keep the angles proper to provide a good sear engagement but if you do it patiently it's easy. i wouldn't bother with a Timney if you can do the metal work with 400 and 600 grit machinists paper, and a good metal-working aptitude.

I have a Rifle Basix trigger on my M77. It is fully adjustable, crisp, light, no overtravel and simple to put in. Just take the factory trigger out and replace it. No fitting or filing required. Try that with a Timney!

i recently reworked one of the 77 triggers on a 300 wm and it made ALL the difference in the world,i would give that a try before replacing the trigger.
