Seems that Lazarus & Lorelie Longshot, Shashwood Whittler & Abby Rose and Violett Peacock and I are going to ride of this hurricane.

The mayor of Houston came on tonight and said it was too late to run--Run? Not sure what that means--don't think any Texan does.

So we're watching some old cowboy movies and waiting for all the fun to happen in 36 hours or so.

Well Cheyenne, at least your town was not built below sea level like New Orleans! (when they rebuild it, will they call it New New Orleans?) You should come out pretty good being far enough inland. You'll mostly get wind and rain. (Lot's of rain) You'll likely loose your electricity for a bit, but that is why they made oil lamps! Good luck, we'll say a prayer for you. 44 Man

44Man hit the nail on the head: rain and wind.

There was no way my bride and I were going to attempt to leave given that all the roads were parking lots all the way to Dallas.

So we stayed inside and enjoyed each other's company--haven't been able to do that since school started up this year.

I kept telling everyone, "We're above sea level!" but they just listened to the news and paniced.

Oh well, in a week or two Rita will be a bad and fading memory

'Glad that you missed the worst of it.
I lived in Houston (Pasadena, actually) for one year in '75-76. That's all I could stand of the place! :wink:
I said, "Why would anybody build a city on a swamp!". Really, I left because it was just to citified for me. I was amazed when I went back last year; the "city" went all the way to the "new" airport! That was just being started when I lived there, and was mostly cow pasture! :roll:

And the trees are being cut down every day! Soon they'll be nothing but concrete and strip malls as far as one can see. Guess I'm getting old--sounding like my Dad.

The older I get the more I sound (and look like, he had no hair either!) like my Dad. In my 20's, I would have thought that a bad thing, but no longer. Now I am pleased when someone tells me I sound like him. He was quite a man in my eyes! 44 Man
