Barrel contours....
« on: September 02, 2005, 09:08:30 PM »
Guys,

I have a few questions.

I am in the process of getting a 17HMR Sportster with the heavy barrel.

I hate "tupperware" stocks and the first thing I will be doing is replacing them.I have two questions for your H&R /NEF buffs here..

1) Will the buttstocks from any of the Topper style receivers interchange (Rimfre/centerfire.etc)??

2)On the forends ,how many barrel contours are there? From what I can tell there are only two (sporter and heavy barrel) ..Are those contours the same from centerfire to rimfire??

I ask the above, because I have a local 'smith who has a line on some good stocks but he does not know enough about the diff in the models to tell me if they will work on my 17HMR..

Your thoughts would be apreciated...

are you the same jim62 from the old Marlin talk?

all the stocks will work on all models.you can take the centerfire rifle stock and use it on the rimfire barrels

Jeff,

Yep, that'd be me..

How's things in Michigan??

Thanks for the info..the 17 HMR Sportster deal sort of fell in my lap and I figured I would try it out.

My little neice and nephew will be shooting with their uncle(ME) soon enough and I thought that assembling a few singleshot NEF/H&R rifles for them to learn with down the road would be cool...

At least that's the excuse I am using to get a few new rifles...

I have a heavy 22 inch 223 barrel and a heavy 22 inch 17 HMR barrel and the are the same.  I am rechambering the 17 HMR to 17 Remington to put on my SB2 frame.  Larry

All the standard issue (factory) NEF and H&R stocks and forends will interchange with the exception on the 10 gauge shotgun stocks/forends, they are reported to be a bit larger, the 10 gauge forends will be to large for sure....<><....
