Looking on Tikka site saw this  short barreled version.  Anyone ever have
or been around on in .308 or 30-06.  I hunt in tree stands alot and think
this would be great.  How much would the 19" barrel hurt the velocity?

I think that you would lose approximately 20 fps per inch.  Personally, I like magnum cartridges to have barrel lengths of least 24" or more, and standard cartridges to have barrel lengths of at least 22" or more.  My own personal exception is,  say, the .45-70 in a Marlin Guide gun (which has an 18" barrel), but even then I still prefer longer barrels.  The muzzle blast would be much more noticeable with those really short barrels.

I have found by adding 2" to my 30-06 it increased my FPS by 50 per inch.
So instead my bullets going 2800 fps the now go 2900 fps. So I would think it would work the same way by taking away 2" it would have reduced
my fps by 50 per inch.

Velocity loss would be slightly less with 308 than 30-06, but not much. I think you would lose about 30 fps per inch going from 22 to 19 in 308. The vast majority of my woods deer hunting has been done with a 18.5" 308. The muzzle blast never bothered me more than a 22" gun and the deer never noticed the 100fps. I love the short barrel in brush and hunting from tree stands. Sounds like a great gun to me. I have 5 Tikka's and all work great.

Even if you lost 200 fps that would only reduce the point blank range by 25 yards.

You will loose some velocity, but not enough to be concerned.    Tikka make some fine rifles.

Back to original question, does anyone out there have 1 of these.  I have yet to see 1 let alone touch it, would like .308 or 06.
