Between the Winchester 1895 and the Browning BLR which rifle would you guys/gals choose?  For the sake of this thread, let us figure that both rifle's will be in 30-06 and the 1895 will probably be one of the 1980's model Brownings.  Thanks.

My vote would be the 1895

I have one of the Winchester 1895 in 405 Win and I just love it.  I like the looks the way it handles.  If you want to put a scope on your rifle that would make it a different choice, I would go with the Browning BLR, for ease of putting a scope on it.

Happy shooting,

You didn't state what the primary use was going to be.  If you need a scope then the Browning is easier to scope, otherwise it the Win. all the way.  Seeing I already have a scoped 30-06, it would be the Winchester 1895, neat rifle.

Primary use would be hunting deer/boar/bear in the mountains around home, S. E. Tennessee.  No, I don't plan on scoping it, just shooting it like it is.  Thanks guys, it does seem like the 1895 has an edge, 405 or not!

If you don't plan on mounting a scope, then the 1895 wins by a fair margin.  Of the two, the '95 has far better balance and handling, at least when compared to the older steel frame long action BLR (and I like BLR's, owning 3 short actions).  My opinion is colored since I have not had the chance to handle the aluminum framed long BLR.
With a tang sight mounted on my Browning 1895, accuracy is all you could ask for in an iron sighted levergun.  That said, my BLR's have no issues with accuracy either.
