Remington 870 .410 jamming
« on: May 21, 2005, 09:05:47 AM »
I've got a Remington 870 wingmaster from about 1987.  Just recently I've really got around to using it.  However, it seems to jam quit a bit.  Shells tend to get stuck in the magazine tube.  I checked and there seems to be a lip of metal on the receiver that catches the rim of the shell.  I've also had a shell become stuck between the bolt and the lever thing that angles up when you insert a shell or work the action to the rear.  This seems to be cause by it not angling up once in a while when you work the action to load another shell.

I've never had these problems with my 12ga 870.  Are these common for 870s in 410?  Will Remington usually fix things like this for free?

Have you stripped and cleaned the gun lately? That just might fix it. Or, if something is broke, you will probably see it. I think the average gunsmith makes half his living cleaning years of accumulated gunk, or else replacing $5 and $10 parts.
