which sniper in .222 Remington?
« on: May 18, 2005, 08:44:43 PM »
My first choices were the Rem. Model 700, the sako and the savage.
Remingtons aren't made anymore, and it's hard over here to get a good second hand weapon.

CZs on the other hand are plenty. Do they offer the same accuracy as the other rifles mentioned above?
I've never shot a savage, but heard nothing but good things about those.
Should I consider going for a savage if the CZ isn't as accurate as the others?

don't know whether or not these exists in .222, but how about a tikka, or a kimber?

I'm open to all suggestions...

Thx in advance...

I have no experience with CZ rifles but I've heard good things about them. I have owned many remingtons and have been pleased with them. I just bought a new savage in 223 I haven't shot it yet but but I like the fact that you can change calibers easily. I don't know about ammo availability in Belgium but  I would think 22-250 or 223 would be easier to get.

I bought my first Savage in late January and I have never owned a more accurate rifle. It is a Model 10 FP in .223 with a 24" heavy barrel and an Accu-Trigger set at 1.5 lbs. The only thing I have done to the factory rifle is to replace the stock with a B&C Desert Tan stock ($95) and set the trigger to a lower pull weight.

You will hear a lot of claims about small groups "all day long" from people on the forums coming out of their best shooting rifles. I must not be that good of a shooter because I have never been able to do that but this rifle can shoot .500" 5 shot groups by 3 different people so far. The best yet is a .193" 3 shot group by my brother who shoots AR's 90% of the time. I have shot two different bullet/powder combinations under a quarter of an inch.

My point is that a Savage is everything you hear about them. Have fun with your choice and good shooting to you.

i know this has nothing to do with what you asked but if you ask me the 22 doesn't really hold much water as a hunting round the 223 does everything and more and it is cheaper. but if you want it as a target/varmint gun then i would highly recommend a cooper or just getting a custom made you could do a savage yourself and it would turn out to be a good shooter . but of the ones you listed i would say cz.
