Taurus 63
« on: February 17, 2004, 12:33:40 PM »
I just picked up a new Taurus 63 in the blue finish.  Seems like a real solid well made rifle.  It is a copy of the Winchester 63 which I could never afford.  Taurus makes a scope mount that replaces the rear sight and takes a pistol or LER scope.  Has anyone had experience with the Taurus 63 and this mount.

thanks

I've just had mine a couple of days and will shoot it in the morning. It seems to be made well and the wood is beautiful, any chance that tang sight for the 62 would fit? the review in gun world was accurate in the only real draw-back is the coarse rear sight, good article-devoted quite a few pages to this gun. I will probably also try that scope mount if it doesnt require any alteration to the gun. Jerry

This is an old thread but I was doing a search on tha Taurus 63. I have an Am Rifleman from June 03 that shows this gun on the back cover equipped with tang sight. Even a detailed inset photo of tang sight mounted saying Taurus Tang Sight.
When I go to the Taurus web site they list the tang sight for M-62 M-72 M-172 only. Can anyone explain this to me. I would be willing to buy but only if I can have the tang sight. Thanks. POW

I have seen ads for this rifle with a tang sight on it and ads for tang sights for it so they have to be out there. Jim

TM7 thanks. What was the price on the 63? I`ll contact the company to see what the discrepency is about the sight. Just might get one if the peeo will work or I can find a receiver sight like the Williams WGRS. Appreciate your input. POW

The tang sights for the 63 will not fit the 62, according to Taurus.  Something about the tang screws.  Anyway, if you call them, they do have tang sights for the 63, for $33 plus shipping.  Not bad, considering that Gander Mountain is trying to sell them for close to $80.

I just found on the taurus website under whats new that the 63 does accept the Taurus tang sight as pictured in their ad. So looks good. I see them on Auction Arms for $225 new in box. Thanks guys. POW

If Wal-Mart is selling Taurus 63s for the prices listed, then they're running them as loss leaders because most distributors are selling them for a slightly higher price... and then you have to factor in the shipping.

I like the Taurus 62 pumps myself. I know this will come across as heresy, but they seem to be as well-made as the originals. Best of all... they're NOT made in China!
