Berretta Customer Service.
« on: March 26, 2005, 07:11:01 AM »
When word got out about the tikka/sako recall I emailed  berretta with my tikka's serial number to ask if mine was involved.  The date of this inquiry was 10/29/04.

Today, yes today, 3/26/05, five months later I get a response.  Lightning fast eh? I will paste the text of their response as it may be of help to others.  I sure hope however I never really need something done from berretta customer service.

Response (Beretta Customer Support Team / CDN) - 03/26/2005 09:16 AM
Hello Kevin:

Thank you for your recent inquiry about the Sako/Tikka Product Recall.  A limited number of recently delivered Sako and Tikka stainless steel rifles have been recalled due to a problem in the processing of material used in the production of barrels.  Most of the affected rifles have been returned or are currently in the process of being returned to Beretta.  In addition, customers that have rifles affected by the recall have been contacted by Beretta and informed of the recall.  Please note that those Sako and Tikka rifles with a serial number less than 419140 are not affected by the recall.  All questions can be directed to Department STR at (800) 503-8869 and/ or str@berettausa.com.  I hope this information is helpful. If you have follow up questions or need further assistance with
this issue, please update this incident.

Best regards,

Beretta Customer Support

Yeah nice to know it takes 5 months to hit send. What concerns me is that my S# is higher than that. However a recieved a message saying that mine was not involved. S'pose I should make a phone call again to be sure.

My experience with european gun manufactures warranty service (Benelli) is that they are much slower than we expect in America. I would say Berettas response time is about the same as what I experienced with Benelli. Perhaps another reason to buy American if that is still possible, with all the outsourcing of parts. To be on the safe side, it probably wouldn't hurt to give them a call.   You will probably be placed on hold 'till August though!   :)

Wolfe;

You don't say as to whether or not your particular gun was stainless or not.  If it isn't I can understand why they didn't get too concerned about your case.  After all, the only guns that the problem exists with are stainless.

Of course, if your gun is stainless, then they are shamefully slow.  What's your's, stainless or blue?

I bought 2 Sakos in the last year and had to deal with the Beretta people on the recall issue. At first they were vague and very unhelpful about the situation. Now when I called they were a little more understanding and even sent me a letter, at my request, stating that my gun was not involved in the recall. I think it's a step in the right direction, after handling this situtation very poorly.

Stainless. 7mmRM.
I called prior to ever recieving the email response. Left a message and got a call back. I wasn't home so they left a message stating my gun was not part of the recall.  Gonna have to call again since according to this email it may be.  Why even have an email system if it's so poorly tended to.

I am not going to make any excuses for Beretta taking as long as it did to respond to your email.  On the other hand, if you just sent an email and waited 5 months yourself, then it would appear that the recall was not that important to you.  The internet and emails are a great thing, but I'm amazed how much people primarily depend on it and don't use the telephone anymore.  I say this because, it would take just a few minutes to go on the net and get Beretta's number and get a live person on the phone.

In preaching what I practice, I called Beretta, spoke with a live person, and was told that my Tikka T3 Stainless in .300WSM was NOT affected.  How long did this take?  How about less than 2 minutes.

Again, I am not excusing Beretta's 5 month long delay in responding to an email, but if it involves something this important, people should take additional initiatives to determine whether their rifles are safe and thus not part of the recall.

I feel your pain.  I tried to call them, in the USA, and got no where.  But when I called the number in Finland got a response in as fast a time as it took them to look it up.  This was only a couple of minutes.  I don't think they did a good job handling this, but I wonder how many e-mails they get in a day in general?  I don't doubt that they get hundreds.  I sure would not want to sort thru all of them.  In the USA we want, and expect, everything right now . . . it is my right.  I do not think the rest of the world works or thinks that way.

I called the 1-800 # and left my serial # model and a brief message.
The next day I didn't hear anything so I was back one the phone. This time someone answered the phone, I gave them all of my info. they said I had nothing to worry about my gun was fine. Still kind of worried, I wanted a second opinion. I called again the next day and got a different person and they also said my gun was not a problem. Then about three hours latter I got a call from yet another guy that was returning my original message and he to said I had nothing to worry about.

I made three phone calls in three days and spoke to three real people and they were all very nice and helpful to me.

They've finally got it on they're website if you search. Here's the text.

Beretta has instituted a recall on a very limited number of stainless steel Sako and Tikka rifles.  Rifles purchased prior to February 2004 are not affected by the recall.   The individual rifles affected by this recall have been identified and the dealer or end use consumer has been contacted directly by Beretta.

With the exception of a a very few customers whom Beretta has made multiple attempts to contact and has been unable to reach, possibly because the customer's address or phone number has changed since the time of purchase, all owners of affected rifles have been contacted. If you fell that you may be have been "missed" because of an address or phone number change please contact the Sako Tikka Recall Service Desk at  1-800-503-8869.

All new Sako and Tikka rifles currently available from your dealer are not in any way affected by this recall
