It's kinda like just loading your 30-06 with smokeless powder, you don't! You get out the loading manually and select 5 different kinds of smokeless powder and work up some loads.
Well now you can do the same with black powder, you have choices and you can use different kinds of black powder and you can work up some loads.
Unfortunately in a lot of cases, the first criteria of consideration with a black powder shooter a is how much does it cost, no other criteria applies muzzleloading or cartridge shooting. That's pretty narrow minded.
It's my experience that Swiss works well in some of my guns and GOEX works better in others and Schuetzen doesn't work well in any yet. Kind of like smokeless powder in my 30-06 no one kind of smokeless powder works best with every bullet.
Also by saying more shiney than traditional you mean more shiney than GOEX. GOEX is not necessarily tradtional, its just all we had for years.
In golden era of blackpowder shooting there were lots of different blackpowder in all kinds of configurations.
