Not Exaaaatly a Cannon?

But it is Black Powder   And It will be loud  I went to a gun show Sunday and this guy had the coolest, biggest, meanest looking BP rifle I'd ever saw. I thought about it the rest of the day and decided I needed a bigger one

This chunk of metal started life as a 4" shaft 16" long. It now has a 3" octagon milled on one end and a 4" funnel machined into the other. I bored it out to 1 11/16. (golf ball bore) I know that this is off topic but if our moderators don't mind I'll post pictures as the opportunity presents itself. Here are a couple of pictures of what I have so far.

What style of carriage do you have in mind.... or is it going to be shoulder launched?

Evil dog, It will have a half-stock style rifle stock. I have  a piece of elm that I think will make a nice looking stock for it. Big piece of lumber, 3.5" thick! I think this will be a fun project. The inside funnel was kind of a pain though. To do it, I drew the end of the barrel double scale and measured that to get the dimensions for the radius. Then I hand scraped the steps out. Took about a hour and a half to scrape it smooth. Later,

Hey, I located the lock I'm going to use for this Blunderbuss, er, hand gonne. It's a reproduction of a flint lock for a Brown Bess musket from DGW. The lock plate is almost 7" long and the hammer looks like it is about 3" tall and it uses 1" flints! I think it will look good on this gun. As soon as I get it and the trigger assembly I'll be able to cut out the stock and post some more pictures. I've been pondering the finish I'll use for the barrel. I think I'm going to polish it then get it brass plated.
