Sako help please?
« on: January 04, 2005, 12:22:45 PM »
Found a Sako in a local shop that has caught my eye but I;m having trouble finding any info on it. Yahoo serch brings up nothing and the Sako site doesnt have it listed.

Its a M995 in 300 win, 25in blued barrel in a black synthetic stock.
price is $699.oo
Didnt have time or patients to ask the locals if it was new but it looks 100%.
Is this a discontinued model? Is this a fair price? Whats your overall feeling about this particular rifle?

Looking for those who have experience with Sakos please. No bashing

It is the same rifle as the TRG-S.  I had one in 7mm Weatherby.  These are good shooters but probably the least expensive of the Sako line.  I paid 650.00 for mine and later sold it for the same as I did not like the recoil of the caliber.  Unless this is new the price is a bit high.  The only ones I have seen are in the higher calibers.  I do not know if this is the only calibers Sako makes them in or not . . . I would have to look on their website.  Mine shot MOA.

Sako web site only list the 30-378 Wby Mag and 338 Lapua Mag.as an "older model"
Does this mean they dropped the line.
It is loudly calling my name!
just dont know much about Sako other than it feels great in hand.

I think they only make it in select calibers for a couple of years and then switch to other calibers.  But the only way to know for sure is to ck with them by phone, unless the gun shop owner knows.  Sorry I can't be of more help. But even if it is an "Older Model" it means very little as far as rifles are concerned.

Davis,
I have one in a 338 LM. It is light weight and if I miss it is not the rifles fault. To the best of my knowledge they have quit making anything but the  30-378 and 338 LM. They do make some for the 7.82 Warbird. If it is a new rifle then jump on it. When you go to get rings go Luepold or get the US optics base for it. My rifle will stack them. I love it. I wished I believed in muzzle breaks.  A 8 1/8 lbs rifle that pushes a 250 grain over 3000 fps is not kind to the shoulder. ELK and Griz beware!!!

I saw one of these rifles on one of the auction sites a little while back and it was selling for about $599, which is a good price for such a rifle.  I didn't buy it because I am more of a stainless kinda guy - especially if the stock is synthetic.  If the stock would have been wood, then I might have bought it.

Still, even if it's NIB, $699 is on the high side.

Zachery,
I know what you mean, I love wood stocks. They just feel better, but that stock goes to my cheeck like gravy to biscuts. It also take out the brunt of the  recoil.
