9.3x62mm Pump Gun !
« on: January 12, 2010, 10:21:13 AM »
"Here are some of the calibers we offer:
6mm Rem., 25.06, 6.5 Swedish, 270Win., 280Rem., 30.06, 8mm Mauser, 8mm-06, 338-06, 9.3x62mm and more
!"

This is from Accuracy Systems, a firm that does extensive work on Remington 750's and 7600's.  Imagine a 7600 in 9.3x62?   Almost like having a pump .375.   Imagine that rig with a 20" bull barrel in 9.3x62 with 286 grain bullets.  A pretty tough outfit.

The idea of a 7600 in 6.5 Swedish or 8mm Mauser is pretty intriguing too.

Accuracy systems make some interesting guns on the Remingtom pump, auto, and Ruger Mini14. Oh if I only had unlimited resources. I think a Remmy pump in 9.3x63 would make a great bear backup gun. I bet even some pros would carry one.

The 9.3x62 mm is considered comparable to the  fabled .375 H&H.   The concept of that much power in a pump gun is really intriguing.   The recoil might be more than from the .35 Whelen for which the Model 7600 is regularly chambered, but it would not be oppressively so.

I like the idea that you can recyle the action without removing your trigger hand from the grip of the rifle, unlike with a bolt action.  Cycling the pump would be the least disruptive of maintaining a continuous sight picture of any rifle except the semi-auto.

As a practical matter, I would probably go with the .35 Whelen for reasons of cost and ammo availability. Nevertheless,  a pump in 9.3 x62 mm is  awesome to contemplate.

9.3 x 62 Mauser pump would be an interesting rifle! The Remington pump is a good rifle.  I see more problems with Remington auto's than any other rifle in the field. My gunsmith just hates the things, so the tacticool black rifle wannabe's built on that action kind of makes me think of the silk purse out of a sow's ear saying.
