WalMart Remingtons
« on: February 24, 2005, 05:47:05 AM »
I've seen lots of Remington ADL for sale at WalMart but never paid much attention.  But the new SPS has kind of gotten my attention but I would want one in 7mm-08.  The few times I've looked at an ADL in WalMart they were usually .30'06 or .270.  I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen or bought a 7mm-08 at WalMart?  I'm figuring Wally World will carry the new SPS and have decent prices IF they have anything other than the usual standard calibers.

The ADLs are a good value and the 7mm-08 is my favorite deer cartridge - excellent choice in both, although if you want to wait for the SPS it may or may not be worth it.

Well, I'm in no hurry as I have several other rifles I can deer hunt with, including my favorite Featherweight in 6.5 SE.  I was looking at the SPS (mainly as an improvement over the ADL stock) as an inexpensive synthetic as all my other hunting rifles are walnut.  I'm also partial to M700s.

I didn't know you could special order from Wally World.  Heck, the main gun store around here won't even special order.

I special ordered my Rem 700 VLS in .308 from them, only took them 3 or 4 days to get it in, they called me right away, and I couldnt be happier. Their prices are great too!

In my Wally World they have a special order gun book at the sporting goods counter.  If the gun has a part number in that book they will order it for you.
Prices listed look good.

Remington SPS or Mossberg ATR 100
« Reply #6 on: February 25, 2005, 06:38:12 PM »
If you do go to Wally ...check out the difference between these two...I have heard the ATR is a shooter.....and that the SPS is similar in barrel texture to the 870 express shotgun. Not really blued well. I wish they'd make the ADL or the SP with a Laminated stock one more time. I saw a .30-06 in a ADL laminated , it was very sharp.......but I like you , am looking for a  7-08 or a .270      Either would do fine for me.....

The early reports on the ATR do sound like its a shooter, but according to their website, its only made in .30-'06 and .270.  I've already got a couple of '06s and the .270 is too close to it performance-wise.  That's why I'm looking for a 7mm-08.  Everybody needs at least one short action, right?

Around here I see those laminated ADL's in 270 at a lot of Walmarts.  Look like a good deal.

The SPS has a very dull, non reflective matte finish. Looks like a tactical rifle except for the barrel, which is sporter weight. For many purposes, the finish would be better than a pretty but highly reflective gloss blue job. And, the stock looks pretty good compared to ADL. The other advantage, in my opinion, is the barrel length, which is 24 inches for standard calibers, 26 for magnums. If you're going to burn all that powder, you deserve an honest velocity gain.

My thoughts exactly, LilAb.  Although I'm interested not interested in a magnum, I actually prefer a 24" barrel.  So far I haven't run across an SPS in the flesh.  I suppose it will be closer to hunting season before many show up in the stores.  But there's always that special order.

ADL in Walnut or lamintaed .270
« Reply #14 on: March 07, 2005, 10:34:20 AM »
I understand Wal Mart may still have some of these in stock , out there...I am in SE Missouri and have not found one in a .270 caliber..so if anyone would share a "sighting" of an ADL .270 Remington, with a walnut or especially a laminated stock...I would appreciate it.  The local Wally World Mgr in sporting goods, says he would be willing to have another Wal mart ship it here...if they'd agree to it.     And I would get to add another Remington to the safe.....Thanks.....
