358-444 358 jdj cartridge input.

thinking about a .35 caliber carbine barrel if any of you guys have any advice/experience with this cartridge i would appreciate any feedback.i will be using this as a medium range deer cartridge.i already have a 444 marlin so i have plenty of brass to size.wondering about reloading dies and balastics.is the .358 jdj almost square shouldered like some of the other jdj cartridges.thanks

I have a 14" 358 JDJ. Very easy to load for...just run the 444 through the 358 JDJ sizer die..and there you have it. As far as powders go..i like AA2520 and H 4198..i get about 2200-2225 FPS with a 225 gr Nosler B-Tip. I love mine. I think in a carbine barrle you should pick up about 200-300 FPS.

I've got a 21" that I had rechambered and have used it for deer and like it but think I'd like to have it cut down to pistol length now. I really don't like the recoil of the 358JDJ in a Contender carbine but that's just me, you may not mind it at all. I also have an older 444 Marlin lever action and think the recoil of the 358JDJ in the carbine is worse.

The only bullets I've tried have been Hornady 180gr ssp, and Nosler 225gr ballistic tips. Both have worked well. Have seen some like the Rem core Lok 200gr. I've used only AA2520 and IMR 4198 so far.
