Junk Product Warning - BEWARE OF B-Square
« on: September 30, 2004, 07:50:14 AM »
Since my new Weatherby Vanguard in .257 Whby. Magnum is intended as my truly long range rifle I wanted to be 100% certain I had the scope aligned perfectly.

To this end I bought a B-Square Crosshair Square, product number T1001.

THIS THING IS A POS. JUNK to be nice but blunt.

It fits fairly well in the back of receiver and lays on the flats there if you hold it in place. So squaring it with action shouldn't be that much trouble. But it is nearly impossible to see the line on it and the crosshairs in relation to each other to do a proper alignment. Still I worked with it a long time and finally felt confident that it as as square with the world as possible and that both the mark on it and the crosshairs lined up. Carefully tightened all down and rechecked. Yup still look in alignment. This took dang near 45 minutes to do what I normally do in less than five minutes.

So I took it to an area where I could plumb the rifle perfectly and checked crosshairs against a known perpendicular line. Back to the drawing board. Cross hairs were tilted.

On the package it clearly says:

YOUR SATISFACTION IS GUARANTEED.

Yeah right what a lie. I called and told them of the problem. Asked for my money back. Nope that's not an option. Will replace it. Now what good will it do to replace one piece of crap with another same piece of crap? They will give me a credit to buy something else directly from them. Yeah fat chance of that happening again.

So beware of B-Square. Seems their Guarantee isn't worth the cost of the ink to print it. And this is NOT the first of their products I've reviewed and found sadly lacking in quality. But I believe it will be the last as I don't think I'll be buying anymore. Would rather spend my money on quality merchandise and with folks who actually honor their warranty.

So while this gets me not one red cent of the money I spent back I sincerely hope it costs B-Square a great many dollars in lost sales for their lack of Customer Service and refusal to honor a warranty.

When folks do good I praise them. When they do bad I tell you that too. B-Square did BAD.

ya know, i have to agree on this one. a lot of folks like B-Square's no smithing scope mount for military rifles. i bought one for my beloved No.1 MK 3 enfield, and after paying almost $100 for it got frustrated and chucked in to a work bench drawer, where it sits to this day in a pile of tangled pickerel rigs and rusty stripper clips. here's what got me mad. i get it home and open the package first thing i notice is the very small instruction sheet. no diagrams or assembly instructions, just a list of parts, half of which i have no idea what they are. so i try it myself. i use the one screw that fits into the ejector screw hole and when it is tight enough that the mount won't move, the screw is now blocking the bolt from closing. after inserting a supplied washer it sets this little problem right. now the base it self is canted to a 80-85 degree angle and i have no idea how to correct it. and i have way to many leftover parts. i figure i'll call B-Square and they can walk me through it, right? WRONG!! their service line was not toll free and was based out of Texas, which would be a costly call from the great white north. they where only open during hours i was in school. and i figured i would probably just get some call center operator who would have no clue what i was talking about and will think i'm just another nut with a gun. :x

don't think i'll probably buy from them again.

Yeah, their stuff always looked like a POS to me.  Seems like they make their sales because they sell for less than the competing quality products!  But, you do get what you pay for in this world.  Sometimes it's just not worth it to save that extra buck!

I couldn't agree more.
I bought a scope mount for a Browning Buckmark from them. It replaced the top strap, pretty simple if you ask me. The mount used a special rear screw, the factory one wouldn't work with their mount. They didn't supply one & when I called them they didn't offer one either.
what in the world?
They got me once, never again.

This probably explains a problem I've been having with my converted SVT40.  I bought one of their no-gunsmihing mounts for it, and mounted a red dot, but the thing doesn't hit the same place twice.  The mount seems to be solid.

I've been thinking it might be the sight, but after this thread, I'm wondering.  Next year I'll probably try another sight on it just in case my original evaluation may have been right (but I'm not too confident of it now).
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!

I only placed one order with B-Square, for a concentricity guage and attachments about 10 years ago.  The instructions seemed less than clear so I wrote for more precise ones.  The owner of the company wrote me a nice letter including helpful drawings for the proper placement point for the measuring dial guage for determining runout.  I've never had reason to order anything else, but the product is still working well so I have no complaints.  Best wishes.

Only B-Square product I've owned is a base/rings for my Bushmaster AR15 Varmiter. It placed the scope exactly where I wanted it to, returns to zero after removal/replacement and has stood up to 1000s of rounds. Guess I was lucky.

I once purchased a scope mount for the mini 14 and it would not mount up properly. To their credit, They refunded my money and sent me a little screwdriver set as a bonus. While I ended up not scoping the rifle I was treated fair. hell real good. That was about four years ago. probally bought out by a bunch of pencil pushing greedy busniess men. It is getting so difficuilt to find a good product and service to match.
