Who uses aftermarket rifle stocks...wood or synthetic?
« on: March 22, 2005, 08:35:11 AM »
Well...I got my new stock for my Weatherby Vangaurd yesterday. they call it the Accugaurd....I ordered it straight from Weatherby...even though it's a Bell & Carlson Medalist...made by them.. for Weatherby.. and I could have had it cheaper from someone else.. I'm not too upset...most other places have them on back order. and I was in a bit of a hurry for it....it really makes it a whole new rifle...it's the tan...with black spider webbing on it...and full metal supports thru out the stock...not just pillars under the screws...the fit and finish on this paticular one is simply outstanding...and it was a straight drop in from the cheap Butler Ceek one that came on it...couple that with not having to fit my new Timney trigger into it...as with the BC stock...makes it perfect...for me...I've never really been a big fan of synthetic stocks...but this one has certainly made a believer out of me for them...

So...which ones do you all have???

I have an older Bell & Carlson composite stock on a 1908 Mauser and a two piece one on a Remington 1100 shotgun with slug barrel. These are a great compromise between the cheap plastics, like Ram-line, and the higher ends, like Brown or H.S. Precision. Much more solid feel than the plastics, and not as noisy (hollow sounding).

On my Howa 1500, which is the same as your Vanguard, I ditched the stock B&C tupperware and installed a Boyd Laminated stock.  I got the drop in ready to go light weight stock, and it fits great.  The rifle is not a lightweight by any means, but it certainly is a nice looking unit, and it handles very nicely.
