I'll post this in the Wildcat forum also but, can the 401 winchester (model 10 rifle)case be formed from any other available case?

Thanks

captainkirk-
401 can be formed from 30-30; turn rim trim and expand, case body in front of head will swell. 7.62x39 some head reduction is required, expand and trim. These are not hard to do with a small lathe.

I just found another version of this in "Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversion".

'From 9.3x72R, turn the rim to 0.457" dia. and back chamfer. Cut case to 1.55" and taper expand to 0.410" dia.  Trim to length and size in .401 die with the expander removed. I.D. neck ream. Chamfer and F.L. size. Fireform in chamber.'

Just another variation for consideration. This is my first post here and wanted to try to help out.
