Encore Laminate stock edition...
« on: February 03, 2005, 03:14:42 PM »
I have seen several of these "special edition" laminates on sale at various internet sites. Does anyone know anything about them? I must admit they look pretty in the pictures, but I am curious as to what others may know about them. Can you purchase an aditional fore end that will match it? How does the laminate compare to walnut or synthetic re: weight, durability, etc. Any help appreciated...

in 2001 i bought my Encore 209x50. it is brown laminate w/ stainless. it has engraving on the receiver, it says  "Whitetail Classic, one of 250" ..a friend bought one a year later with slightly different color. his says Whitetail Classic II.. he was able to get a forearm when he bought a 223 barrel thru the same dealer....

Smokey66, Are you happy with the brown laminate model? The picture of the brown stock looks pretty. Do you know if it is the same color as what E. Arthur Brown sell, called a nutmeg color?
I know I can buy a forend thru them, I am just wondering if it matches...

I believe Boyd's are making these stocks for T/C. The laminates EABCO sells are definitely from Boyd's. I have a Boyd's thumbhole on my Remington 700---It is heavier than most but I wanted it heavier for my .350 Rem Mag.

I've purchased all of my Encore wood (laminated stuff) through eabco.com.  If I'm not mistaken they sell the Boyd Bros. stuff.  All of my gray, and all of my brown match.  But, it is all eabco.com stuff.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that most likely Boyds Bros. makes the stocks that T/C and eabco.com are using.  They should all match fine.

I have laminate stuff on a .308 Encore pistol, by 209X50 ML, and my .223 rifle.  It does add some weight to the gun, especailly the ML.  Kinda like the weight with that one.  The .223 is a vamint set-up with a 26" barrel, so the weight is o.k. there too.  The pistol is a might heavy, but it does have the Warne Maxima base and rings along with a Bushnell Elite 2-6X.

Get the laminated stuff.  I think you'll like it.

Ranger, Re: the pics of your 2 rifles, they look like 2 different colors in the picture, is that correct or is it just the light? The ML stock looks somewhat darker (black?) than the .223 (gray?). I have seen other pics of the brown that I like, but I really like your .223 set up, thats a nice looking rifle!
Did you start out with a Walnut or synthetic gun and buy full set (butt & forend) together? Just trying to figure this stuff out. Thanks for your respones everyone...

i contacted one if the stock companies a little while back, sorry i just can't remeber who it was. they told me that their forearm would match, and, according to the photos, i believed them. i just wish i could remember exactly who i was dealing with. i had to put that project on hold for a while. i'd be glad to send you a pic of my encore if it would help. just let me know....

Don't mean to hijack the post, but are the Boyd's stocks left/right hand specific or are they ambidextrious?
Thx,

Ambidextrous, I'm a lefty and have a pepper laminated set on my Encore 209x50. I like it alot, much better than the synthetic that came on the gun when I bought it.

The buttstocks on both my .223 and ML are one in the same.  Same buttstock on the same frame, I'm just swapping the barrels.  Everything matches up perfectly.  Both forends match the stock w/o any variance in color.  The reason for the color variation in the pics is that one was taken in direct sunlight on a sunny day, and the other was taken on an overcast day.  I have some more pics that I can e-mail you if you are interested.

I originally bought the Encore in the ML set-up with synthetic furniture.  I ended up selling that all off and then purchased the laminated stuff from eabco.com.

I also have a forend for a standard tapered barrel in a box somewhere.  I'm contemplating the purchase of a .308 barrel to match my other two set-ups.  Near future purchase I believe.

I just got done digging around the closet and found my forearm for the standard tapered barrel.  It is in a white box that says "Boyd's Gunstock Industries" on it.  So, I've confirmed it for ya.  E. Arthur Brown sells Boyds stuff.

When I bought from eabco I had them install the qd sling studs on the buttstock and all three forends.  You can buy a whole set-up (buttstock, ML forend, varmint forend, and standard tapered forened) for about $200.00.  They have sales on this stuff from time to time.

I have a pepper laminated thumb hole stock and forearm on one of mine. I think it looks very good. The thumb hole make it very comfortable to shoot.  :D
