Noticed that you were bringing a 7mm-08.
Wondered if you have ever tried the SPEER 110gr. TNT/HP in 284 cal.
If so, how do they work on them PD's?

Dennis, I just got the 7mm-08 right before hunting season. It is primarily my daughters deer rifle.

I haven't had a chance to try anything other than the Hornady Light Magnum factory chambering, and a 120 grain Sierra Soft Point hand load. I do have some 145 grain Speer soft point's that I'm working on now.

I may try some of the Speer 110 grainers, but I haven't yet.

Dennis, Hornady makes a 100 HP that I've used some in loads to let Faye get more shooting time in without the recoil. It should work well for use on varmints from the 7-08. Shoots nicely accurate and if wanted can be pushed really fast.

I've been using a Sierra 120gr. Spitzer in both of my 7mm-08's Have found them to be VERY accurate. I've got some 110 grainers loaded up for my Mod 7FS. Have a box of them and just ordered 100 new brass cases. Haven't tried them in the Ruger Compact yet.
Trying to decide on which rifle to take. Both have short barrels.

Thanks for the info. With the short barrel in either one of them, I'm gonna need all the speed I can milk out of the little rifles.

I haven't had a chance to chrono my 120 grain load because my chronograph is on the fritz. But, according to Hodgdon's book, the max load is clocking around 3100 fps using Varget. I didn't go to the max since I was loading these for my daughter to use, so I figure with the shorter barrel, and the grain or so less that I used, I should be getting just over 2900 fps out of it. Maybe a little more.

I suspect that I may need to do some work to the fore-arm on this rifle to really make it shoot. I'm pretty sure it's touching in a couple of places that it shouldn't.

Not sure of the velocity, but a buddy of mine uses 100g Hornady hp's for his 7-08 on groundhogs. He uses a compressed load and says that any hog hit with one is toast. The only thing he complained about was that he could't get an accuracy with them.

I don't wanna get too graphic but he said one hog had intestines hangin' out the neck when he hit it(neck shot). I'd say that is some pretty good impact to pull the testines allawy up there.

I wonder if maybe he was seeing the windpipe instead of the intestines??

I've got all of my 120 grainers loaded up, and I'm working on the 145's now. I also have a bunch of 165 grain Interbonds worked up for my 300WSM, and a bunch of 40 grain V Max's for my Ultra in .223.

Next I'll work on 45-70 and 44MAG.

I guess I should look at the bright side of this surgery recovery......

I got a bunch of bullets loaded up and ready to go AND I cleaned all of my guns

Wes;

Just put the Leupold 2.5X8X36 scope on the Mod. 7FS Rem. It had a straight 4X on it. Been shooting it the last 2 days at the range. Getting around 1 inch for 5 at 100yds. Also tried some 130gr SPBT Speers. Man these shoot MOA also. So I'm getting excited about June. Hope to see some Airborne PD's.

Sounds like you've got it figured out Dennis.

The only thing I've shot with my (Daughters') 7-08 is a bobcat so far. We'll have to wait til next year to see how it will perform on a deer. I may bring her out one or two days of the shoot. I'll probably hire her as a water girl or brass collector or some such. She'll probably try to pop a few dogs too with her rifle.
