Source For M70 Win Classic Action
« on: January 12, 2005, 02:11:33 PM »
Does anyone know of a source for a Winchester M70 Classic short action?
I would like to have a rifle built on this particular action.  I know Brownell's has both Remington and Ruger actions but cannot find a Winchester supplier.  I also know I could buy a complete rifle and rob the action.  This however, seems wasteful.  Thanks for any help, KL

If you buy the complete rifle you can sell the stock.

Catchone,  I don't believe that there are any sources commercially for Mod. 70 actions.  Winchester(USRAC) won't sell them, in fact, they won't even sell you any parts related to the bolt/action unless you are one of their approved service gunsmiths.

My suggestion is to make the rounds of gunshows to see what you can find.

Best of luck with your project! :-)

Guys, thanks for the response.  I was afraid that would be the answer.  I guess I'll begin looking at the gun shows.  I looked at the remake of the pre-64 M70 action made by Dakota but that's way the heck out of my price range.  Thanks again, KL
