Pa bought'em when I was a kid and never shot 'em much. I can't wait to get out and make some smoke with them. I don't think either of them was shot 10 times.

had a 58 screw in breech plug till a few years ago,it liked 90 gr. loose rs. a 530 hornady rb.or the lee targetbullets and 70 gr. powder.....if you need  speedloader or bullets or balls ive got some cheap......JB

I have two of the screw in breech plug 58's. Love both of them.  Recently drilled out the breech plugs and (tapped) for installion of a 209 primer system on them. These have one problem which is solved with the 209 system and that is ignition. The big firing pin is finiky on ignition.  When these were purchased they were $55 each. They were the first reasonable cost guns that will drive tacks. They are excellent guns to muzzle load hunt with. Take care of it, cause they ain't makin no more of these.

You may want to consider the 209 system for ignition.

Who did the conversion work for you. That sounds like a great idea. Honestly though I've got an encore and a traditions inline both in 50cal so I don't know how much use the 58 will get.

Drill Press and a tap and a little time on the shop bench. Fairly simple transition. If you can find a TC 209 screw in adapter, then all you are required to do is drill the hole and tap it for threads. The one that I purchased was $12 or so. Now, the one made from a large headed bolt was really more than I expected in labor. The hardest part on this one was drilling the small hole all the way through the bolt, then drilling the screw in breech plug and tapping it all the way through to receive the bolt. Then the head of the bolt is drilled out to accept the 209 primer. This one would not be repeated from the labor and pain in the AXX it was. I am pleased with both of them and the 209 conversion is the best upgrade for this rifle. The best is to find a screw in 209 adapter and work from there.

I got rid of the 50 cal encore, one 50 cal hawkin, one double barrel Trail arms, and fixin to let another 50 cal hawkin and 50 cal TC Scout go. These 58's are excellent to use in the field. If you ever think of letting it go, I would be interested cause I just like the thangs. Heeeee!!
