Congrats Jo... and another one bites the dust.  I rarely go coyote hunting but its fun when an opportunity to pop one presents itself.   I would have had a running second shot also if there were 3 in the field.  My chances of hitting a running coyote at 300 yds is slim but I enjoy the challenge.  At least I don't have to eat it if I mess up the meat.
good shootn

Those farmers are rather funny about that aren't they?  What kind of exit wound did you get from the V max?

i got one of those cass creek predator electronic callers, went out this evening, sat behind a old barn, pasture to my west, cotton stalks to my east,im on the edge of the field, sat down, starting calling with the jackrabbit one,and it wasn't  5 minutes i looked over my left shoulder and theres a coyote at a steady run from my left to right, didnt even see me,i turned around slowly, already shaking(nervous),took a shot, missed, he turned back around and started running back the other way, took 3 more shots, couldn't hit him. he went out towards the cotton field and stopped.to far but i didnt have anymore shells anyway, then i noticed about 100 yards to the right from that same coyote there was another coyote out there! i love that cass creek caller! but i dont like to shoot freehanded. i gotta try something else.

In the old days used to wait until the coyote was within ten feet and then shoot them in the head with .22 Hornet..

josebd -

Sounds like you have the bug!  Got #56 a week or two back, will probably go out tomorrow at dawn to try for another.

Glad to hear that Cass call is working -  I've been thinking about etting one to get the 'yotes up out of the willows along the creek where I hunt.

got another one this evening, except this time i called it in,well 4 of them actually, using js tape, pig in distress,i was so nervous, they started circling me,i was in a old barn, went ahead and shot it right at 200 yards, aimed just above his back, tore up his spine, howa .243,65 vmax. i was actually surprised i hit it with all the shaking i was doing, and i really didnt need to aim over his back. i was just nervous.tried to get a second one but never could hit it with him running!i had a blast!!!!!!!!!

I like shooting coyotes alot, but I've never gotten nerved up about it.  Not like missing a deer and thinking about the rack size or the potential meat in the freezer.

The last yote I shot I saw while driving around.  He was 200 yds out in the field on the passenger side of the truck.  He started trottong across the frozen-snowed over bean field in a diagonal direction in the 80 acre field.  So, I saw a corn crib about a mile away sitting right near the yote's expected path of travel.  I raced around the section and holed up in the crib.  Sure enough, he came trotting buy.  I blasted him with my 308 A-bolt with 110gr VMAX.   That was a fun time.

Good to hear your making good use of available cover!
Amazing what one can accomplish when one does not know what one cannot do!
